He is one of the discoveries in the team and a professional whose achievements we all admire. He has been building the path he walks today since childhood and speaks with great respect and gratitude for the inherited family passion for construction, the lessons taught, and the good example he had.
Today, in his role as Project Manager at "Sharena Fabrika," Dimitar Vassilev is one of the key pillars supporting essential processes in the execution of every stage of construction. He works with the dedication and understanding that he is building the present, which will change the future, and that it is important for this work to withstand anything.
We ask him when he started building his path, what it means to have worked on a project awarded "Building of the Year", and with what emotions he took on his new role at Sharena Fabrika.
When and how did you start building your path?
From an early age, I developed an interest in construction. As a child, I loved playing with Lego. I spent countless hours on this activity. My interest in construction is probably in my genes. Both my grandfather, whose name I proudly bear, and my father are builders. I dare say that I am a third-generation builder with a true passion for the profession. For me, construction is not just a job; it is an art that leaves a lasting material imprint over time. My grandfather often said that the magic of construction is in the mark you leave. You start with an empty plot and build something that will stand the test of time. This philosophy guides me in every step I take.
What are the foundations they have laid in you as a professional?
From a young age, I was by my grandfather and father, observing and learning from them.
Their dedication and professionalism formed the foundation of my understanding of construction. I started at the bottom of the hierarchy, just as they did. This gave me a deep understanding of the labor required to create something with your own hands and the satisfaction that comes with it.
What is the significance of this heritage for you?
The significance lies in the ability to inspire and motivate. Knowing that I am part of a continuous line of builders fills me with pride and responsibility. This is not just a job; it is a legacy that must be preserved and developed. Every successful project is a testament to the efforts and talent of the previous generations who passed on their knowledge and skills to me.
How did your experience shape over the years?
I graduated from the "Kolio Ficheto" Construction High School in Burgas, which provided me not only with a solid foundation of knowledge but also shaped my character and passion for construction. I continued my education at UACEG in Sofia, where I started working in my first year, doing bricklaying, plastering, and finishing works. Later, I began as an assistant site manager at a large construction company working on the third metro line in the capital. There, I met my first mentors in the construction sector, from whom I learned a lot. Working on this large-scale project was an enormous school, where one could encounter almost all types of construction activities. I gained invaluable knowledge and experience that will serve me for life.
What followed after that experience, and how did your career develop?
I spent two years with the company and then returned to my hometown of Burgas, where I started working at our family business, "EKIP 5". Initially, I took on the role of site manager on smaller projects, but over time, I rose to project manager. I spent almost three years in Razgrad, participating in a large-scale project for the expansion of a plant. Together with our team, we built over 400 meters of overpasses for power lines and pipelines. After completing the project in Razgrad, I returned to Burgas and participated in the construction of a research and production complex in the city. I also completed a bachelor's degree in finance, which gave me another important perspective – the ability to manage the financial aspects of projects and balance between quality and costs.
What does the "Building of the Year" award for the planetarium in Burgas mean to you?
The planetarium is one of the most remarkable projects I have worked on. Its realization was the result of tremendous joint effort, filled with excitement and challenges at every step. This building is unique in its design. With an external diameter of 12 meters, the planetarium is a sphere with a surrounding ring.

The structure, made of stainless steel sheet with a mirror finish, covers an area of 400 square meters and is mounted on a sturdy support frame of stainless steel. The surrounding ring transitions into a canopy over the main entrance, constructed from a stainless steel structure and clad with aluminum panels with a honeycomb aluminum core, creating a sense of futuristic design. Every participant in the construction chain contributed to the successful execution of this exceptional project. I feel deep gratitude to our partners for their cooperation and support, but most of all to our incredible team of employees, with whom we dedicated our efforts and time to realize this architectural marvel. The award we received is not just a recognition of our hard work; it is a symbol of our collective success and dedication.

What was the biggest challenge in this project?
Inside the building, there is an auditorium with a capacity of 50 seats, equipped with a modern projection dome and an audio-visual system. The suspended ceiling integrates the air conditioning system and lighting, providing acoustic comfort and a cozy atmosphere. We managed to realize the concept of a renowned architect, bringing to life the idea of a landing flying saucer, giving the building a unique and memorable appearance. Similar structures around the world are more like sculptures, while the planetarium in Burgas is a building with real public functions. This significantly increased the complexity of the structure and execution.
With what emotion did you approach the proposal to take on such a large-scale project as "Sharena Fabrika" in the role of project manager?
I accepted the opportunity to be the project manager of this significant project with great excitement and enthusiasm. The chance to be a part of the project filled me with a sense of pride and responsibility. Despite the challenges I knew would arise, I felt, and still feel, a strong motivation and determination to make the necessary efforts to achieve the final goal. By dedicating myself to the successful realization of this project, I know that I am putting a part of myself into something bigger and more important, which will stand the test of time.

What skills are required for a person in such a position, and what are the responsibilities that come with the job?
Holding such a position requires an arsenal of key skills and responsibilities. A deep understanding of construction processes and execution technology is necessary—each step must be precisely planned and executed. Effective time management and task prioritization are vital, as well as a high level of organization and attention to detail. Managing the budget and expenses is equally important because any mistake can lead to significant financial losses. Unexpected problems are always lurking, and quickly finding solutions is critical to the project's success.
Resource management—materials, equipment, and labor—requires constant attention.
Quality control, ensuring that all activities are performed according to established standards, is an essential aspect. We strive for perfection in every detail.
What are the main stages of the construction process, and how do you work within deadlines with such unpredictable weather and unforeseen situations?
I perceive the construction process as a complex equation with many variables. Solving this equation requires a global view of the whole. Continuous control, coordination, and flexibility in managing these variable parameters are necessary. Only in this way can we direct them towards the ultimate goal—the successful realization of the project. We start with planning and design, move through site preparation, rough construction, finishing works, equipment installation, testing, furnishing, and commissioning. Each stage requires precise planning, coordination, and control to achieve a successful project completion.
Working within deadlines under unpredictable conditions is a challenge that requires flexibility and proactivity. We always plan with a buffer in terms of time and resources to react adequately to unexpected problems. Constant monitoring and quick decision-making are key. Teamwork and good communication allow us to adapt our plans and minimize delays.
How important is teamwork in such large-scale endeavors?
I believe this is the moment to express my deep gratitude to the entire team of professionals I work with. The truth is that a leader is only as strong as the weakest link in their team. But I don’t see weak links around me—I see only professionals, dedicated and talented people who give their best every day.
Every team member plays a key role in achieving our goals. In difficult moments, they show incredible dedication and professionalism. I admire their ability to work under pressure, find creative solutions, and adapt to changing circumstances. Such strength and determination are the foundation of every successful project.
Collaboration and mutual respect among team members are what allow us to overcome every challenge and achieve excellent results. I believe that together we can achieve a lot. This is the true spirit of successful construction—collective effort aimed at a common goal and the confidence that no peak is unreachable when we work together.
What are the specific features and challenges in this project?
One of the main challenges is the reconstruction and reinforcement of the old village school, built in 1932. The reconstruction of such a building is more complicated than constructing a new one because you have to consider many factors and conditions. Additionally, we strive to preserve the spirit and authenticity of the school. This is not just about construction skills; it’s about sensitivity and respect for the past. Reconstructing such a historic building is like working with a priceless artifact—each brick and every detail carries history and significance. I sincerely thank the design team at "VA Studio" for their professionalism and meticulous approach, which greatly eases the work and minimizes unforeseen situations. I would compare their work to that of a responsible and precise surgeon. That’s how they operate.
How do you feel knowing that you are participating in laying the foundations of a school that must stand the test of time?
Education is one of the fundamental pillars of any society. The initiative to revive an old school, as well as to build a new one, is a sacred cause. Educational institutions should be seen as temples of knowledge. This complex will provide knowledge and skills to people who want to create and craft.
Personally, I learn and absorb best through practice, and I am extremely happy that a large base for practical training and experience will be created here. I believe that theory and practice should meet in the classroom for education to be truly complete.
Another significant aspect of this project is that it revitalizes a beautiful region. Visitors to the campus will be surrounded by the beautiful Bulgarian nature. Here, they will find not only knowledge but also a connection with nature, which is extremely valuable in today’s fast-paced world.
I hope that what we build will contribute to the revival of some prestigious professions. This is the way to contribute to the preservation and development of valuable skills and traditions, which are the foundation for the sustainable development of our society
